The Laws of Gunstock

Gunstock is wild and free — but every settlement has its laws, and Gunstock is no exception. Maxi and her crew enforce the laws to ensure everyone’s safety, and to foster a better community for all. But there are always those who try to subvert the laws…will you help Maxi, or will you assist those who undermine Gunstock and its peace?

Murder

Murder is when you kill someone. If you kill during a duel or some idiot agreed-upon fight to the death, you need to tell the mayor and the guard after just so you’re on the up and up. If death is due to self-defense, you don’t have to go to the culling post. If you’re sneaky or if you assassinate someone in private, then that’s investigated as a crime. Murder is always punishable by the culling post.

Thievery

Thievery is when you take property that legally belongs to someone else. The punishment for thievery is a fine equal to the worth of the property that was taken, as defined by the mayor or guard.

Property

Property is something that you legally own through fair trade, bargain, or your own effort of work. Property cannot be gained through thievery. People are never property.

Kidnapping

It’s illegal to take someone against their will and keep them somewhere that they don’t want to be. The punishment is the culling post.

Protection of Travelers and Merchants

The harassment of travelers, or thieving from merchants, is illegal. All those within Gunstock are expected to be hospitable to travelers and merchants. If they’re not, they may have to pay a fine as determined by the mayor or the guard, or face the culling post.

Citizenship

An individual may apply for citizenship at Gunstock if they have resided in the town and have found gainful employment for at least 6 months. They may submit their application verbally to the mayor, who will then list the new citizen in the Book of Names.

The Rule of the Loop

If someone purposefully tries to loophole a law, such as being a merchant and being a purposeful asshole to see if someone will harass them so they can collect a fine, then they will be fined instead.

Violence

Excessive violence in the form of torture or beating someone to death within town (if it’s not consensual and not in self defense) is subject to fines or the culling post as determined by the Mayor and the guard.

Ass Sittery

Willfully refusing to assist someone whose life is in danger, or refusing to assist the town against giant zombies, douchebags, raiders, or other threats, means you are subject to the culling post. We all do our part.

The culling post

The Culling Post is a sacred part of Gunstock. You are tied to a post, defenseless, at the edge of town for a time determined by the Mayor. Minimum time starts at 15 minutes and goes up from there. Any threats in the area may try and eat you during that time. If your friends or allies are around, they’re allowed to defend you — but you better hope you have good friends. No one may be untied from the Culling Post before their time is up. If they are, then the person or people that untied them are subject to double the time that the convicted had on the Culling Post themselves.
